Supporting excellence in community linking between Wales and Africa towards building peace, prosperity and understanding
Launched on UN World Poverty Day in October 2007 by Wales’ First Minister the Rt Hon Rhodri Morgan, the Gold Star project is an innovative partnership which also represents the needs of civil society community linsk to the project's many stakeholders. Gold Star is:
- managed by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA).
- funded by the Welsh Assembly Government ‘Wales for Africa’ scheme.
- working with BUILD UK (Building Understanding through International Links for Development) , the DfID UK Global Community Links programme, the WAG International Learning Opportunities programme and the British Council Active Citizens programme.
- supported by UKOWLA (UK One World Linking Association)
- involving 110 Welsh link groups and organisations .
- with 56 Wales - Africa Community Links running over 190 projects under the five Gold Stars with partners in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- endorsed by the United Nations , as a pilot for developing a global community linking award programme.
